Adeus Portugal

April 10, 2012

We did a lot of things in Portugal.  We saw monuments and castles, drank way-too-sugary mojitos, and danced to Portugese music- we also ate.  Oh how we ate!

Our last day in Portugal was spent nursing some minor headaches and exhaustion (enter way-too-sugary mojitos).  And what better way to deal with “over imbibing” than going to the beach?  The beautiful sand and warm warm sun made the nauseating trolly, metro, and bus rides to get there totally worth it!

Yes the beach was lovely, but did I mention we ate a lot?  Because we did.  A lot.

Pastries, hamburgers (because we are Americans after all), pastries, seafood, rice, and pastries. Lots of pastries.

We tried some very touristy paella (which is a Spanish dish, not Portugese).  It looked a bit dodgey, but Katrina is kindly demonstrating that it was in fact delicious.

Our last meal of the trip.  Aromatic herb encrusted salmon with potatoes and vegetables, with some white wine sangria of course.  Heerlijk!

So I suppose this is my true farewell to Portugal.  I love Amsterdam, the way the homes look like dolls’ houses and how the city sparkles in the canals at night.  But as I look out my window onto the dreary Keizersgracht, part of me would rather be looking at a blue ocean with drawling Portuguese music floating in through an open window and trams rattling past with men shouting in the street below.    For now, I’ll just reminisce through the many many photos I took.  I’ll leave you with a few of my favorites I haven’t shared yet.  Turn on some Seu Jorge and start sipping on some sangria- we can pretend we’re living the Portuguese life together.

Adeus Portugal!

Yes! We were in Lisbon for most of the trip, but made some excursions out of the city as well. Portugal is an incredibly beautiful country! I can’t wait to go back 🙂
